Bunny Info
The miniature lop is the smallest of the lops weighing on average 3.5lbs but can get to about 5lbs, they are a chunky little bunny with a lovely docile yet cheeky personality which makes them great family pets or house rabbits, they also have short hair that comes in a wide variety of colours and patterns.
First things first you will need to buy a hutch the largest you can afford and preferably one with an attached run.
You will need a water bottle and a heavy ceramic food bowl.
Your bunny should have access to an unlimited supply of fresh hay and water and have a bowl of fresh rabbit pellets daily.
Cover the floor of the hutch with a thick layer of good quality wood shavings.
Get a Litter tray which will make cleaning much easier, empty it daily and the whole hutch weekly..
Remember to clip your bunnies claws regularly.
Bunnies prefer company so if possible house two together either two girls (does) preferably sisters or boy/girl (buck/doe) combination with the boy being neutered.
Please check out rescue centres as there are so many unwanted bunnies looking for there forever homes.
Domestic bunnies are related to the wild European rabbit, the biology and behaviour of pet bunnies is very similar to that of their wild cousins who are also territorial and form complicated social structures. Bunnies have a very unusual digestive system, when they eat food it is passed through their gut where special droppings, called caecotrophs, are produced they eat these caecotrophs, allowing the food to be re-ingested. thus getting the full benefit out of it..Bunnies have continuously growing teeth their top front teeth grow at a rate of 3mm a week! so its best to give them wood toys on which to chew on. Bunnies are extremely intelligent and can be taught to respond to commands using positive reward-based training, here at Lyn's Mini Lops we have a doe that has learnt how to open her cage door!
